We focused on “Third Conditional” this time. 

(I didn’t know the answer, but…)

・If I had known the answer, I would have told you. 

(I was not a bird, but…)

・If I had been a bird, I could have gotten there faster.

(I had a map, but…)

・If I hadn’t had a map, I might not have been able to find the way. 

These past perfect tense are NOT past events BUT they are imaginary situations and actions.
